Around 25,000 households in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems passed over the state, bringing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Homeowners observed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in certain regions. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units deployed to address the widespread outages.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

At the same time, nearly one thousand households in the southern state also encountered power outages after the capital city saw its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, mostly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• The Werribee area - saw substantial destruction
• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

At the height on Sunday, over 28,000 energy customers in the state were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Moist weather were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with ongoing severe weather risk predicted across various areas of both regions.

Health Warning

Health officials warned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the northern rural areas, specifically given the ongoing climate situation.

This warning comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the area.
